Eddie Newell was Head of Physics, but he was also Richard Burton's
Uncle* and stayed with him and Elizabeth
Taylor at holiday times. A very good and wise teacher - once you
could understand his welsh accent. He was also on the Tannoy at
Franklins Gardens which meant that as a THS pupil you were often asked
to translate.
Mr. Nobby Clark - I believe he was an untrained teacher from the war time and taught me maths and Technical Drawing and woodwork below the 6th form. A strong but very fair disciplinarian and a first class teacher.
Mr Howard the headmaster (a very good one) gave me very wise advice when I was about to go to university and was described to me (after I left) by one of his teachers in front of other teachers as the "Best Head in Northampton".
I think this last comment about Buzzer may cause some controversy, as not everyone appreciated him as much as Howard - Ed
