Rich sent in this photo on the right taken during the 1967
production of Penny for A Song. More information on that performance is
in the 1968 edition of [The Tower].

A set of pictures was taken, at the dress rehearsal, by one or two members of a local camera club and given to Mr Brewer. He then let us have copies of the ones that we wanted. I think Stuart Mathew’s father was involved, so credit to him. Some of these photos are below.

to as the Small Boy, in the programme. With hindsight, I wonder
if that was done deliberately. It was one of Buzzer’s
favourite phrases. Buzzer's used to say, as he stood at the
bottom of the stairs, “Small boy come here...”

Mick Stock went on to perform for a couple of years at the Rep. The balloon used to come on from the side and stop over a trapdoor in the middle of the stage. On the last night, because of the strong stage lights, one or two of the cords snapped and the balloon did not run smoothly. It still got to the centre and Mick managed to disappear. No H&S in those days.

In this picture Brian Roberts is holding a beer bottle. My beaker has beer in it. Brian had dared me to take the bottle up the tree and to open it during the play. I did open it and beer frothed up like a volcano and spilled down the tree causing the paint to run. I was politely told that there was to be no repeat performance on the night.
